UNDP SDG AI Lab

The SDG AI Lab is a joint initiative of UNDP Nature, Climate and Energy Team, Finance Sector Hub and IICPSD, which has a mission to harness the potential of frontier technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for sustainable development. The Lab contributes to strengthening UNDP’s internal capacity to respond to the increasing demand for digital solutions through provision of research, development and advisory support.

By focusing on three critical pillars - data pipelines, green computational power, and talent - the AI Hub seeks to support African countries in harnessing the transformative potential of AI and ensure that the AI revolution leaves no one behind. The AI Hub builds on and complements existing initiatives of the G7 and beyond, serving as a multistakeholder space for steering collective actions with the private sector to accelerate sustainable development, by working directly with local AI ecosystems across countries.
